Union Cabinet meeting rejects ‘Supreme’ decision on SC-ST

Giving information about the cabinet meeting, Ashwini Vaishnav said that there is no provision for creamy layer in the Constitution. This matter was discussed in the meeting.

After the Supreme Court’s decision regarding SC-ST reservation, a cabinet meeting was held today on Friday (09 August). The matter was discussed in the meeting and it was decided that the reservation being given under the Constitution will be continued. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information during the cabinet briefing.

He said, “In the decision given by the Supreme Court regarding reservation, some suggestions have been given for SC and ST categories, the same has been considered in the cabinet. NDA is committed and determined towards the Constitution made by Baba Saheb. There is no provision for creamy layer, reservation for SC and ST will continue as per Baba Saheb’s constitution. When asked whether this issue was raised by the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister or the Prime Minister, Vaishnav said that this is a well-considered view of the Cabinet.
