Panchayat representatives should take the responsibility of making any one village a model village – Prahlad Patel

Two community buildings will be built in panchayats with population of more than five thousand.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Shri Prahlad Patel has called upon the officials of Panchayats of all levels to make any village of their choice a model village with all available resources and mutual coordination among various schemes. He said to start building the village of your dreams.

Shri Patel was addressing the concluding session of the workshop organized by Panchayat and Rural Development Department and German organization GIZ on the topic Self-reliant Panchayat – Prosperous Madhya Pradesh here today.

Shri Patel said that the Panchayats which are adjacent to the cities have their own problems and issues. They are called semi-urban. There are 1200 such panchayats. Discussions will also be held soon with their presidents, vice-presidents, members and officers. Similarly, the situation of Pesa Panchayats and Panchayats located near forest protected areas is different from normal Panchayats. Their issues will also be discussed.

Shri Patel said that two community halls will be built in panchayats whose population is more than 5000. He urged the Panchayat representatives to start the process of selecting a suitable construction site. He said that officials of District Panchayats can play the role of advisors in the meetings of District Panchayats but should not interfere in the decision process.

The Panchayat Minister said that all Panchayat officials should be aware of the rules of the meetings. This will not cause conflict. He said that the development activities being carried out in the Panchayats should be continuously monitored so that they can be improved on time.


Shri Patel said that Panchayat representatives are socially responsible persons and they should fulfill their responsibilities diligently. He said that the meetings of the general body of Panchayats are like cabinet meetings. Take this very seriously. Where meetings have not been held, organize these meetings at regular intervals. This is everyone’s collective responsibility. Shri Patel said that the funds available in Panchayats will be spent only with the consent of the elected Panchayat representatives. He called upon the Panchayat officials to ensure that the utilization certificate of the development works done in their Panchayats is submitted immediately. Always work with a view to improving systems. He said that all the suggestions given in the workshop will be considered and appropriate decisions will be taken. He said that it is necessary to follow financial discipline. Madhya Pradesh has become famous at the national level due to the alertness of Panchayats in the implementation of many central schemes.
